Conservative expert burns ‘absolutely bald ** t crazy’ Republicans in Texas

Conservative expert Charlie Sykes lamented on Friday what he described as the “race to the bottom” to “see who can be more MAGA” between Republicans in Florida, Arizona and Texas.

“I know Texas Republicans have been conservative for a long time, but there was a time when conservative Texas Republicans weren’t absolutely crazy,” Sykes, founder of conservative website The Bulwark, told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace in a video shared online by Médiaité.

“Texas Republicans were respectable,” Sykes continued. “And now we’re almost in this competition… between Florida, Arizona, and Texas to see who can be the most MAGA, who can play the craziest culture war games because it seems like this race to the top. down that we’re talking about here.

Sykes’ comments came during a discussion of a Texas law that asks teachers to offer opposing views on historical events. Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) recently banned COVID-19 vaccination warrants in the state, which is also now subject to a very restrictive abortion law.

A school administrator faced backlash this week after saying educators should “make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust, you have one” with alternate views.

Sykes said it was “easy to hit the administrator” but “the focus should be on the law and the fact that teachers are terrified. They don’t know what’s going to happen.

“What’s the other side of the Holocaust? Sykes asked later. “Are you going to assign the fourth graders ‘Mein Kampf’?” Are you going to make them listen to Seb Gorka’s radio show? I just don’t know what she really had in mind. But then again, that’s exactly what you get when you have politicians playing crop war and then trying to ram it into draconian, ill-thought-out legislation. “
