EKU hosts Northern Kentucky on Tuesday

RICHMOND, Ky. –

After winning a series of road conferences to start playing ASUN, the baseball team returns to Earle Combs Stadium on Tuesday to host Northern Kentucky.

IN THE SERIES

– The Colonels are 20-13-1 against the Norse. EKU has won four straight in the series since May 2018.

– The last meeting between the two teams, March 11, 2020, turned out to be the last game of the 2020 season as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down college sports a day later. Eastern Kentucky defeated NKU 9-5 in Highland Heights. Charlie Ludwick went 1 for 3 with two walks and a run in that game. Logan Thomasson had a run and an RBI.

THE COLONELS

– The Colonels improved to 13-8 this season and started ASUN conference play last weekend by winning two of three games at North Alabama.

Kendal Ewell hit .417 in ASUN’s first three games.

Will Brian is first in ASUN and second in the NCAA, with eight saves.

Will King is tied for fourth in ASUN with 25 RBIs, tied for fifth with eight doubles, tied for fifth with five homers and ninth in slugging (.600). Thomason is tied for eighth with 14 walks.

– Colonels are second in ASUN and 33rd in the nation in fielding percentage (.978).

– Freshman left-handed isaac milburn will start on the mound for the Colonels. He’s 0-1 this season with a 6.23 ERA in 13 innings. He has made three starts in five appearances.

SEARCH THE OPPONENT

– Northern Kentucky is 6-11 this season and 1-1 in the Horizon League. NKU’s first win of the season was a 7-6 win at then-seventh-placed Mississippi State.

– The Norwegians shared a conference doubleheader at Illinois-Chicago on Sunday.

– Michael Hall leads the team with a .389 batting average in limited action, having just 36 at bats. Third baseman Manny Vorhees is hitting .343 with a .446 on-base percentage and a team-best 15 runs. Right fielder Treyvin Moss has a team-high 19 RBI to go along with a .311 average.

– NKU is hitting .277 as a team, but the Nordic pitching staff has allowed opponents to hit .310 this season. The Northern Kentucky pitchers walked just five fewer batters than they struck out (100-105).

– Closer Bryson Lonsbury has made six appearances, is 1-0 with two saves and a 2.76 ERA. He struck out only four batters in 16 1/3 innings.

– Freshman Kaden Echeman will start on the mound for the Norse. He is 0-3 with a 7.13 ERA. In 17 2/3 innings, the right-hander allowed 20 hits, 16 runs and seven walks while striking out eight.
