Guilford AAU wins the last two games of the regular season

The Guilford 19-U AAU baseball team ended their regular season 12-7-1 after winning their last two games on the calendar last week. The Grizzlies picked up home wins over City Angels Baseball Academy and the NCT Mustangs at Guilford High School to enter the playoffs on a positive note.

On August 7, Guilford hosted the City Angels Baseball Academy and triumphed by the final score of 8-4. Andrew Shosho pitched a full game for Guilford, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Receiver Chris Golino went 4 for 4 with a walk, one brace, two runs scored and four goals stolen for the Grizzlies, who had nine goals stolen as a team. Center fielder Mike Torre was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Guilford made no mistakes on the pitch in the victory. Max Corbett led the effort by converting all six of his defensive opportunities.

The next day, Guilford earned a 9-2 victory over the NCT Mustangs in their regular season final. Sam Ametrano had a full game for the Grizzlies, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out seven in his seven innings of work. Ametrano also went 2 for 3 with a walk, a brace and a home run. Torre was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Once again, Guilford made no mistakes in the game. Alex Vincent managed his eight defensive chances.

Guilford is making the East Shore Travel League playoffs this week. The tournament kicked off on August 11 (after press time) and will conclude with the final at the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford on Friday August 13.
