ICC World T20 | Twitter Reacts To Wanindu Hasaranga’s Transformation Into Thor With Magnetic Right Hand

The miracles that movies create with large-scale productions are often imitated live by the cricketers on the pitch, but in a much more realistic and impressive way. On Sunday, Wanindu Hasaranga provided an example of the same as he reached out to catch a mid-air ball in a stellar field effort.

After a tepid group stage, Sri Lanka will be hoping to start their Super 12 campaign in style against Ireland in Hobart on Sunday. They have certainly started well on this path, limiting the European opposition to just 110/4 at the end of 15 overs at the time of writing. A major contributor to their success, both in-game and in the tournament in general, has been Wanindu Hasaranga’s diverse skill set and great-playing pedigree to always steal the show by achieving something special.

Although he hasn’t managed to grab a scalp in the game so far with one more to go, the all-rounder made sure his name was in the conversation with a spectacular on-court effort instead. Positioned on the limit on the leg side on the fifth ball of the 11th, Hasaranga saw Harry Tector fire fiercely at a short ball from Dhananjaya de Silva. The white Kookaburra flew like a tracer ball and seemed destined for the boundary, only if there was an ordinary cricketer facing the challenge.

Hasaranga rushed to his right as fast as lightning and just when the ball seemed to be out of his reach, the 25-year-old stuck his hand out and the rock just seemed to fit perfectly into his grip as if it was simply his. The incident was reminiscent of how the superhero Thor reaches out in Marvel movies and his weapon Mjolnir simply clings to his palm. the only difference being that Hasaranga’s miracle didn’t use any special effects but just an extraordinary skill. The internet was quick to go gaga over the incident and took to social media to praise the showstopper.
