Shakib seeks return to national fold after recovering from hamstring injury suffered in T20 WC
All-round star Shakib al Hasan joined the Bangladesh squad on Thursday for the second test against the Pakistani visitors.
Shakib tested negative for Covid-19 and joined the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium team for the training session.
Shakib before joining the team had a personal net training session and also underwent a Covid-19 test in Mirpur.
The all-rounder on the left arm is looking to make a comeback in the national fold after recovering from the hamstring injury suffered in the T20 World Cup.
Shakib had suffered a strain on his lower hamstrings during the line-up in the game against the West Indies in the T20 World Cup.
During a physical examination, it was diagnosed to be a Grade 1 intensity injury, as Shakib was excluded from participating in the last two games of the tournament.
Shakib then missed the three Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan and was then unavailable for the first test.
The National Selection Board included Shakib in the team for the second test after receiving positive reports from the team’s physio.
Shakib on Thursday reached SBNCS about two and a half hours earlier than the team’s practice schedule and had spent some personal time in the net.
Bangladesh will face Pakistan in the second and final test of the series which begins on Saturday in Mirpur.
Bangladesh are down 1-0 in the series after conceding an eight-wicket loss in the first test in Chittagong.
