Southeastern ends Lion Classic II with 4-2 win over Marist

HAMMOND, Louisiana – The University of Southeastern Louisiana softball team closed out Lion Classic II with a 4-2 victory over Marist on Sunday morning at North Oak Park.

Southeastern (13-6) scored four runs through the first three innings to pick up the win, as madison rayner and Bailey Krolczyk each drove in the races. Heather Zumo (8-0), Mary Cathryn (MC) Comeaux, Ellie DuBois and KK Ladner combined to hold Marist (7-8) to five hits, striking out 10 and allowing no earned runs.

The Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead late in the first set. Lindsey Rizzo walked one with one out and Rayner followed with his team-record ninth brace of the season to tackle Rizzo from the first.

Southeastern widened its lead late in the second inning. A field error on a double flight by Cam Bonman and Elise Jones allowed both Lady Lions to score to give SLU a 3-0 lead.

Southeastern closed their scoring late in the third set. Detached house in Krolczyk madisen blackford to push Lady Lion’s lead to 4-0.

Marist took advantage of a pair of SLU errors to spoil the shutout offer in the top of the sixth inning. Ladner sat the Red Foxes down in order to spoil any comeback plans and secure her first backup as Lady Lion.

Southeastern will return to action at the upcoming Memphis tournament. The Lady Lions open the tournament Thursday at 4 p.m. against Central Arkansas.
