Suryakumar Yadav recalls having a fun chat with Rishabh Pant while touring England last year

Suryakumar Yadav recalled a fun conversation with Rishabh Pant when he first played Test cricket on the England tour last year. The 31-year-old Mumbai Indians hitter revealed Pant jokingly asked if he needed tea and samosa while on the pitch silly.

Rishab Panting is popularly known for his constant chatter with the big gloves behind the stumps for club and country. The 24-year-old squasbuckling doorman even sometimes makes commentators stop talking during live games to listen to him.

But one of the many things Stump-mic couldn’t grasp in the past that Suryakumar Yadav, the prolific hitter of Bombay Indians (MI) as well as the Indian squad, revealed on Breakfast with Champions Season 7 Episode 4. This happened during India‘s last England tour in 2021 when Suryakumar first fielded white shirts.

“Last year when we were in England, I was playing for Pujju bhai (Cheteshwar pujara). I was so silly. It was the first time I came to the field in a white jersey (for Test cricket). The game was close then and Pant was standing right in front of me. Then, out of nowhere, he asked me: ‘bhai, cha e samosa? (buddy, do you want some tea and samosa?)’. I was like what to say. He’s just too much fun,” Suryakumar told Gaurav Kapur during Breakfast with Champions.

Additionally, the 31-year-old MI hitter explained how Pant’s movements behind the stumps always keep them guessing. Suryakumar said players were often unsure what he wanted them to do on the cricket grounds.

“Rishabh is too good (in a funny way) when guarding too. He keeps moving with both hands to move defenders even 20cm. Later, he said, “nothing”. I just did it randomly. Sometimes we have no idea what exactly he wants to do with us,” he added.

Pant captained the Delhi Capitals, who sit eighth in the IPL 2022 points table with two wins from five matches. MI, on the other hand, languish in last place, losing all six matches so far.
