Texas Rangers Youth Academy to Host 2022 MLB RBI Southwest Regional Baseball and Softball Tournament, July 23-25
DALLAS— The Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota, has been selected as the host site for the 2022 MLB RBI Southwest Regional Baseball and Softball Tournament July 23-25. This is the second year in a row that Rangers Youth Academy will host the Major League Baseball event.
Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) is a youth baseball program operated by Major League Baseball, designed to provide youth in underserved and diverse communities with the opportunity to play baseball and softball.
The Rangers will host all three divisions of the RBI Southwest Regional Tournament, including 15U baseball, 18U baseball and 18U softball. RBI All-Star teams from across the region will travel to West Dallas to participate in the three-day tournament, including RBI programs from Austin, Houston and New Orleans.
“Participating in the RBI Regional Tournament is the highlight of the summer for many of our athletes and coaches, myself included,” said Juan Leonel Gárciga, Senior Director of Youth Baseball and Academy Programs. “As host city, we are proud to provide all RBI programs in the Southwest region with a big league experience and to work with MLB to host a first-class tournament prior to the RBI World Series in August. .”
The teams will face off in pool matches on Saturday July 23 and Sunday July 24, with the top two teams from each division advancing to the league matches on Monday July 25.
Softball games will be played at Kershaw’s Challenge Field and Josh “Hambone” Hamilton Field, and Monday’s championship game will be played at Hamilton Field. Baseball games will be played at Johnny Oates Field and Field of Dreams, with the 15U and 18U Championship games played at Oates Field.
All tournament matches will be open to the public free of charge, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday through Monday.
The winners of the Southwest Regional Tournament will go on to compete in the MLB RBI World Series at the Jackie Robinson Sports Complex in Vero Beach from August 4-15.
