Update on Former Cowboy Baseball Players in The Pros

LAKE CHARLES – A total of nine former McNeese baseball players continue their professional careers this season at all levels, including one, Jace Peterson, who is in his 11e season and eighth in the major leagues.

The following is a list of those players and what they did up to Wednesday, June 23.

MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYERS
Jace Peterson • Milwaukee Brewers

Peterson is in his 11e season in the pros and his eighth in the major leagues. During his career, he played for five different MLB organizations – San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and now the Milwaukee Brewers. He has played 26 games with the Brewers this season, reaching .194 with two homers, two doubles and eight RBIs in addition to two stolen goals. Was put on the DL in late April and went to rehab in Nashville where he played 17 games before returning to the Brewers on June 8 and has played in every game since. I went 2 for 3 with a brace and a run scored in Wednesday’s win over Arizona to keep the Brewers in first place in the NHL center.

MINOR LEAGUE PLAYERS
Aidan Anderson • Jersey Shore BlueClaws • High A Philadelphia Phillies

Promoted from GCL Phillies West Clearwater Threshers to High A BlueClaws in late May. Played in five games and is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA with the BlueClaws. Pitched 8.1 innings with six strikeouts. During his two-year minor league career, he is 4-1 with a 4.12 ERA in 24 appearances.

Grant Anderson • Hickory Crawdads • Raised A Texas Rangers Affiliate

Anderson is in his third season with the pros and his second as a member of the Crawdads. He’s 0-3 on the year with a 5.24 ERA in 12 appearances. He’s pitched 22.1 innings, struck out 30 batters and is keeping his opponents at an average of .233. In three seasons in the minor leagues, he’s 9-8 with a 3.43 ERA, 61 appearances, 99.2 innings pitched, 93 Ks and an opponent’s batting average of 0.220.

Austin Briggs • Midland RockHounds • AA affiliated with Oakland A

Graduated from Short A in 2019 to AA Midland RockHounds to start 2021 season. Played in 15 games this season and posted a 1-0 record with 12.57 ERA. Pitched 19.1 innings and struck out 17 batters. Pitched two scoreless innings Wednesday night against Wichita and allowed just one hit while striking out two.

Bryan King • South Bend Cubs • High A Chicago Cubs affiliate

After spending the 2019 season in the Rookie and Short A leagues, King was promoted to the High A Cubs to start the 2021 season. He is 0-1 on the year with a 6.43 ERA making five appearances. King pitched seven innings and struck out nine batters while keeping his opponents at a .208 batting average. In his career, he is 2-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 19 appearances, 31 innings pitched and 31 Ks as his opponents strike 0.189 against him.

Collin Kober • Travelers from Arkansas • Affiliate AA Seattle Mariners

Kober has appeared in 13 games, compiling a 1-0 record with a save and a 2.45 ERA. He pitched 14.2 innings and struck out 21 batters as the batters hit just 0.218 against him. He had an exceptional May, allowing just one run in 9.1 innings and eight appearances while keeping his opponents at a 0.188 batting average. He has allowed only points in three games and the most allowed is two in an outing.

Robbie Podorsky • Chihuahuas d’El Paso • Affiliate AAA San Diego Padres

Podorsky started the season at Double-A San Antonio and played seven games before being called up to the AAA squad on May 13. He hit .370 in San Antonio, hitting safely in six of seven games. In four games with El Paso, he was hitting 0.429 (6 for 14) with a homerun, two runs batted in and four runs scored. Was placed on the 7 day casualty list as a result of this and is waiting to return to active status.

Shane Selman • Lansing Lugnuts • High A Affiliate of Oakland A

Selman is in his second season in minors and has been promoted to High A Lansing Lugnuts to start the season. He has appeared in 38 games this year with six home runs, 20 RBIs, three doubles and a triple while hitting .236. His 6 home runs dominate the team while his 20 RBIs rank second.

Cayne Ueckert • Tennessee Smokies • Affiliate of AA Chicago Cubs

Promoted from the South Bend Cubs (High A) to the Tennessee Smokies this season and compiled a 1-0 record with a 2.30 ERA. Played in 12 games with the Smokies, pitching 15.2 innings, striking out 18 batters and keeping opponents at an average of .104. At 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA in two minor league seasons which have seen him appear in 29 career games, pitched 42.1 innings with 50 Ks while keeping his opponents at a 0.184 batting average .
